Lighting on the Go

We live in a fast paced world and sometimes you need auxiliary lighting but can’t carry around a full lighting kit. That is why I learned on my photo excursion about a lighting technique called Mobile Triangle Snoot (MTS). All you have to have on hand is your camera and a snooted speed light, then you literally hold the speed light on one side or the other in your hand as you photograph the subject. The results can give you a beautifully lit, unique style similar to Dave Black, a master of light.

Background on my Mobile Triangle Snoot Shoot

The flower images were taken when I walked past a trashcan that had the flowers sticking out. The portrait was taken using the speed light snoot and fog. The moss picture was taken right before I found the flowers as I was simply exploring Sky Mountain Lodge.

Benefits of Mobile Triangle Snoot

As you can see, the results of MTS are beautiful and unique. This technique is simple once you can balance in the lighting correctly, and is nice to do when you need good lighting in any situation.
